Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a British and American sitarist. She also performs music. She was the first woman in her age group to receive the British House of Commons Staff. Anoushka Shankar is an emerging young star of the Indian sitar. She is a student and daughter to Ravi Shankar. Her childhood was spent bouncing between London and New Delhi. The first time she performed was at New Delhi at the tender age of thirteen. Then the same year, in Encinitas CA she attended high school, graduating with distinction in the year 1999. Anouskha is an aspiring young lady, nevertheless, she has an remarkable career in the field of singing and recording. She has been performing with her father on stage for many years. She released Anourag her debut album on her own in 1998. In 2002, she debuted her Grammy award-winning album Live at Carnegie Hall. Her stage career is very vast as she has appeared in all of the world's major venues. The career of Anoushka goes far beyond the realm of music. In 2002, she wrote the book Bapi The love of My Live this is a pictorial biography which pays special respect to her dad Ravi Shankar. The year 2003 saw her starred in Dance Like a Man as a Bharat Natyam artist. Anoushka is continuing to advance in her professional career, and we can expect many new things that will be coming from this amazing woman. Anoushka Shankar was born in England and spent much of her youth living between London and Delhi after which she moved to California where she went to the high school. In Delhi during his birthday celebrations for his 75th birthday she made her debut performing the sitar in front of the audience four years following her nine-year-old father. Anoushka had the opportunity to acquire many valuable experiences as she traveled with her father when he toured the world. It included performances at Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festivals, as well as recording alongside George Harrison. It is the House of Commons Shield was awarded to her from the British Parliament for being the top Asian Arts musician. She is the only female and is the smallest recipient of this distinction.
